I received a call on Wednesday night at home, Mark Nakashima passed away and would we please do the music. When we sang in the church hall we would see Mark, his mom Elena and his brother Paul at mass every Sunday. You could tell how much they loved each other and we were lucky enough to know that they also loved us. Elena told us that all the time. I did not know them well but, we shared that sacred hour in prayer and in music week after week and year after year which bonded us, as with all of our parish families.
Even after 30 years of being involved in Music Ministry it is such a reminder that what we do really has only a little bit to do with music…but a lot to do with love and service. What a privilege to be invited to share in this most sacred moment for this family.
In remembrance…Mark Nakashima…eternal rest grant unto Him, O Lord. May he rest in peace.

Passed away peacefully on July 15, 2019 in Royal Columbian Hospital at the age of 59. Mark was predeceased by his adoring father, Robert Takeshi Nakashima. He is survived and will be most lovingly remembered by his devoted mother, Elena Nakashima, his best pal and brother, Paul, his sisters, Sandra Waithe (Tom) and Ruth Ventresca (Paolo), his precious niece, Rebecca and cherished nephew and godson, William, as well as a posse of dear aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mark’s easy going and loving nature was adored by all. He was an avid fan of NHL’s Habs, CFL’s BC Lions, and WWE’s John Cena. Mark’s gentle disposition, incredible courage, steadfast faith, and sweet smile will be greatly missed. He will always remain our hero. Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 23 at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 2888 Delahaye Dr., Coquitlam where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 24. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
